One of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time, George St-Pierre, is returning to the UFC. He recently signed a new contract after vacating his welterweight title in 2013 to take an indefinite hiatus.

Since his departure, the welterweight title has seen three champions—Johny Hendricks, Robbie Lawler, and Tyron Woodley. However, none of them have produced the kind of star power that St-Pierre has generated. The Canadian is a two-time welterweight champion and the longest reigning title holder of that division as well

St-Pierre’s popularity is also evidenced by the venues that sell out when he headlines. In fact, he is largely responsible for producing the second largest UFC attendance in the company’s history. UFC 129 (St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields) garnered 55,724 people, only slightly eclipsed by UFC 193 (Rousey vs. Holm) that set the new attendance record of 56,214.
