Waiting on Bones Jones

With its biggest star temporarily on the sidelines chasing a lucrative payday against Floyd Mayweather, the UFC is anxiously awaiting the return of arguably its best fighter.

Jon Jones was in attendance at UFC 210 this past weekend to watch Daniel Cormier successfully defend his light heavyweight championship in a rematch with Anthony Johnson. And while Dana White refused to tip his hand on what is next for Jones, you have to believe that the trouble star will be thrust right back into the thick of things once his suspension expires in a few months.

Jones is a lighting rod whether he is in or out of the octagon, and though Conor McGregor has supplanted him as the company’s golden goose, he is still a fighter that people want to see compete for a variety of reasons. Whether it’s the all around skill set that few (if any) in the sport have ever possessed, or the unabashed arrogance that leads viewers to pay money to see if he will finally get destroyed, the aura of Jones is a real thing.

It is probably only a matter of time before he fights Cormier again, and it will be interesting to see if that is his first fight back given all the bridges he has burned recently. Coupled with the pending return of Georges St-Pierre, and the promotion should have plenty of star power and big fights on the docket to carry them through until McGregor returns to shake things up.

Now if we could only get the Diaz brothers back…
